Watersheds in Need receive $10,000 donation

Peninsula Streams Society recently received a windfall through the philanthropy of Mr. David Spence and his wife Donna Otto of Brentwood Bay. “Never before in our 13 year history have we received such a single large personal donation,” said Ian Bruce, Executive Coordinator of the Society. “We will receive the funds over a three year period, distributing the money into project development activities over that time”. Mr. Bruce continued by saying that this donation will be used to “leverage” other funds for new projects and programs on Saanich Peninsula streams. “This kind of donation, not prescribed to any specific program, maximizes its utility to our endeavours”, said Bruce. Mr. Spence and Ms. Otto recently moved to the Island from Port Moody where they were significant supporters of the salmon hatcheries of the Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society (on Mossom Creek) and the Port Moody Ecological Society (on Noon’s Creek). Peninsula Streams Society is a primary environmental stewardship organization on the Saanich Peninsula area, active in 15 watersheds and delivering educational programs to over 1000 students per year.
