Colquitz Benthic Macroinvertebrate Surveys
Join us for two aquatic bug surveys: one in the Colquitz River at Copley Park, and another just a short walk away in a restored section of Gabo Creek, a Colquitz tributary. The surveys will involve sampling in the creek with D-nets, identifying and counting the bugs or other macroinvertebrates we collect, and assigning an overall stream invertebrate score based on the diversity of invertebrates sampled.
When: Thursday, October 8th, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
Where: Copley East Park. Parking is located on Parkridge St. Walk from there across Vanalman Ave to the east side of the park. Follow the path through the park until you reach a small playground where we will meet. Parking is also available on Eastridge Crescent. Take the path into the park, keep left, and cross the metal bridge.
What to bring: Water, snacks as desired, sturdy footwear or rubber boots, and layers for sun/wind/rain you don’t mind getting wet or dirty. All sampling equipment provided. Washrooms on site.
